What is the Impact of Seasonal Transitions on Production?
Measures Need to Be Taken Immediately
Seasons are changing not only in Turkey but all over the world. This is negatively affecting agriculture significantly. For example, this year, hazelnut and olive harvests began late due to seasonal transitions. Fruit saplings are flowering early with the first signs of spring. However, these seeds unfortunately freeze with the incoming cold wave. This leads to a poor quality and late harvest, or even no yield at all. The problem in our country is not limited to this. Dangers awaiting our country also include drought and water scarcity.
What Will Be the Farmer's Loss in This Situation?
The ministry of agriculture needs to take serious measures to overcome these problems with less damage. When an agricultural policy based on climate variability is established, these problems will be significantly reduced. The most important thing here is the proper use of water. Drought and water scarcity issues are seen as the main reason for the price increase in products, as well as affecting production. The realization of domestic seeds and production without being forced to import products is also among the expected developments in agriculture. There are many problems that farmers are struggling with, including drought, seasonal transitions, and the high cost of diesel and fertilizer. For this reason, thousands of farmers are abandoning agriculture and animal husbandry. It is clear that these problems cannot be solved in the next few years.
