Prosthetic Dental Treatment Before and After
Problems That Can Occur if Prostheses Are Not Cleaned
The treatment method applied to patients to eliminate problems such as tissue damage in the mouth or tooth loss due to various reasons is called prosthetic dental treatment. This method, also known as prosthetics, is used not only in dentistry but also in different medical fields. We apply the prosthesis method as a last resort to patients with gum disease or who have lost many teeth. Losing many teeth means large gaps in the mouth. In this case, since there will be no teeth, activities such as eating and speaking are disrupted. With the artificial teeth placed, we enable our patients to perform their daily activities and get rid of aesthetic concerns. The period after treatment is as serious as the period before. Prostheses are difficult to maintain. If they remain in the mouth constantly, fungal and bacterial formation occurs.
How Should Dental Prostheses Be Cleaned?
The purpose of dental prostheses is to restore lost oral functions to patients and to achieve a beautiful smile. While oral care is a matter that everyone should pay attention to, there are specific situations that patients who have undergone prosthetic dental treatment should be particularly careful about. If hygiene is not given importance in removable prostheses;
- Infection can be seen in the mouth.
- Tissue damage can occur under the prosthesis.
- The patient may not be satisfied with the result. Because food debris fills the spaces between the prostheses
and tartar forms in areas where a lot of saliva accumulates.
- Bad breath is observed when teeth are not cleaned regularly.
A toothbrush is sufficient for oral hygiene. Teeth placed after prosthetic dental treatment can be easily cleaned by washing in water. The use of substances that will cause abrasion of the teeth is not suitable. If the teeth on the prosthesis are scratched, plaque and stain formation will occur in these scratches. For fixed prostheses that cannot be removed, constant monitoring is essential. In case of stain and tartar formation, it is possible to clean them in a clinical environment. We also recommend that those who use fixed prostheses use dental floss in their daily care.
