What is Natural Chimney Draft?
Low chimney temperatures at the heat generator and chimney outlets, and high amounts of water vapor in the flue gases of heat generators burning liquid and gaseous fuels will cause acids and condensations in the chimneys. The large mass of masonry or brick chimneys absorbs more heat from the flue gases. At the same time, it causes the flue gases to cool down and the chimney drafts to decrease. Insufficient thermal insulation and excessively large chimney cross-sections are also among the primary causes of problems in chimneys. It is essential to perform chimney maintenance and cleaning, and to obtain a chimney report after every chimney cleaning. Natural chimney drafts are the results of the density difference between the gas inside the chimney and the air. Chimney losses are also known as pressure losses, and accordingly, they include chimney materials, elbows, sealing and reductions, and temperature losses. Insufficient and poor insulation allows cold air to enter the chimneys through leaks. Chimney problems usually result in insufficient chimney draft and cause reasons such as condensation and backdraft. A chimney report is required for all these chimney types.
What is the Uplift Force Inside the Chimney?
For chimneys to perform their functions healthily, i.e., for chimneys to be able to discharge gases, it is possible only if the air density inside the chimneys is less than the outside environmental densities. This is achieved by the inside of the chimneys being hotter than the outside environments. Today, it is always necessary for all chimneys to have a chimney report document for human health.
